Sharon Lyson, PT

I have almost 11 years experience as a physical therapist in Greater Chicago, Illinois and in Western Washington, mainly in outpatient physical therapy setting. While attending physical therapy school in the Netherlands, I acquired manual therapy skills that I have continued to study and expand upon. I incorporate these eclectic approaches in evaluating and treating orthopedic and neurologic patients to aid in therapeutic healing processes.

I enjoy working with patients to educate them in anatomy, biomechanics, and body mechanics, individualizing their treatment to maximize their return to function. As an APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor, I also strongly believe in supporting the education and preparation of physical therapy and physical therapist assistant students. In 2002 my husband, Merv, and I moved to Whidbey Island, where I worked for Whidbey General Hospital for over four years. My hobbies include mountain biking, hiking, traveling, volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, and walks on the beach with my husband and dog.

Becky Vavrosky, PTA
Becky joined the Anacortes Physical Therapy team in January 2007. She has been a resident of Anacortes since 1983. She is an avid swimmer, and was first inspired to become a PTA by watching a local physical therapist perform aquatic therapy. After much encouragement from her friends and family she followed her instincts and enrolled in the PTA program at Whatcom Community College, graduating in December 2006. Becky feels a strong responsibility to help others, and because of this she was a member of the Red Cross Disaster Team for a number of years and is currently involved with the organization Love, inc. She also owned her own landscape business, Earthwise Designs to help support herself while enrolled in the PTA program. You may recognize her from her work with the Boys and Girls Club of Anacortes.

Becky has recently started Anacortes Physical Therapy’s Aquatic Therapy program. She realizes that warm water therapy is a wonderful place for patients to rehabilitate, especially when pain prevents traditional land-based exercises. In addition to aquatic therapy she greatly enjoys pediatric and geriatric rehab.

When she isn’t at work Becky enjoys being outdoors! Hiking and biking are two of her great loves, in addition to swimming (especially at Whistle Lake), singing in her church choir and photography. She has 2 children—a son who is working out of the country and a daughter in college.

Education 2006 A.S. for Physical Therapy Assistant from Whatcom Community College

1978 B.S. in Horticulture from North Dakota State University

Continued Tai Chi for Balance (July 2007)
